The number seven seeded Boston College Eagles advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with an 84-75 victory over the number ten seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders on Thursday.
Sean Marshall scored 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while Tyrese Rice added 26 points and 4 rebounds to lead the Eagles. BC shot 51 percent from the floor and dominated the glass with a 12 rebound advantage.
Boston College led by seven in the first half but the Red Raiders were able to cut into the deficit and went into halftime trailing 41-39. In the second half Texas Tech built a four point lead but hit the skids, failing to score for nearly three minutes as BC went on a 7-0 run. Texas Tech was able to get within two, 72-70, but the Eagles responded once again with a 6-1 streak to cushion their lead with just under four minutes remaining.
In the final 41 seconds the Eagles sealed the game with six free-throws to advance to the field of 32.
