Washington State Shakes Off Upset Bid from Oral Roberts, Advances in NCAA Tournament
The number three ranked Washington State Cougars dismissed a fourteen seeded Oral Roberts Golden Eagles squad 70-54 to advance in the NCAA Tournament.
For awhile it looked as if the Golden Eagles would pull the first round upset as they built an eight point lead in the first half but Washington State was able to close the opening frame on an 8-2 run and went to the locker room trailing by just two, 28-26.
The opening six minutes of the second half were dismal for Oral Roberts as the Cougars pounced right away. A 16-2 run gave Washington State a 42-30 lead and deflated the Golden Eagles hopes of an upset.
Oral Roberts was able to get within six but the Cougars answered once again with seven straight points to build their lead back to 13, 60-47.
