The number three seeded Texas A&M Aggies became the seventh favorite to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with their 68-52 victory over the number fourteen seeded Pennsylvania Quakers. The NCAA Tournament is yet to see an upset and the Aggies were not willing to oblige.
Texas A&M took advantage of a poor shooting Penn team that could make just one field goal in the opening 9:26 of the game. The Aggies led by as many as 15 in the first half before settling with a 31-18 lead at the break.
Penn came out shooting in the second half and within seven minutes had grabbed a 39-37 lead and had the Aggies worried. But then the Quakers spent the next six minutes wondering what happened to their shot as they hit nothing from the field while the Aggies went on a 10-0 run and took control of the game.
The Quakers entered the game with a 49 percent shooting percentage from the field and a 36 percent strike rate from beyond the three-point line but against the Aggies they struggled to hit 36 percent from the field and only hit 4-20 from deep.
Acie Law finished with 20 points and 6 rebounds while Joseph Jones added 14 points and 11 boards in the Aggies victory. They will now face the Louisville Cardinals in the second round.
