Kirkland's, Inc. (Nasdaq: KIRK) $13.28, Today announced financial results for the 13-week and 39-week periods ended October 31, 2009.


Net sales for the 13-week period ended October 31, 2009, increased 7.6% to $92.4 million compared with $85.9 million for the 13-week period ended November 1, 2008. Comparable store sales for the third quarter of fiscal 2009 increased 11.3% compared with an increase of 1.2% in the prior year period. Comparable store sales in off-mall stores increased 11.2% for the quarter, and comparable store sales in mall stores increased 11.7%. The Company opened 7 stores and closed 2 stores during the quarter to end the period with 296 stores.


The Company reported net income of $5.6 million, or $0.27 per diluted share, for the 13-week period ended October 31, 2009, compared with a net loss of $1.5 million, or $0.07 per diluted share, for the 13-week period ended November 1, 2008. For the 39-week period, the Company reported net income of $12.5 million, or $0.62 per diluted share, compared with a net loss of $5.7 million, or $0.29 per diluted share in the prior-year period.


What They Do: Kirkland's is a specialty retailer of home decor in the United States. Although originally focused in the Southeast, the Company has grown beyond that region and currently operates 298 stores in 32 states.


CombinatoRx, Incorporated (Nasdaq: CRXX) $0.88 and Neuromed Pharmaceuticals Inc., a privately-held biopharmaceutical company, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued Neuromed a letter extending its review of the New Drug Application (NDA) for the product candidate Exalgo™ (hydromorphone HCl) extended-release tablets by three months. The extended Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) date for the FDA to complete its review of the Exalgo NDA has been set for February 22, 2010. The FDA stated in its letter extending the PDUFA date that the purpose for the extension is to allow the FDA more time for a full review of Neuromed’s submission, including a recent amendment by Neuromed to the Exalgo NDA.
