Christina Ambers, Popular Hand Model, Sues Apartment Building for Mistreatment

Hand and foot model Christina Ambers has filed a $10 million lawsuit against her Manhattan apartment building Avon House for mistreating her since she married their porter, Angel Rotger. In the lawsuit, Ambers claims the abuse included hailing her own taxis and retrieving her own packages on top of management being generally hostile towards her and Rotger.

“I hope that people can understand how awful it is to come home and to then be treated with hostility in a building where I have paid a lot of money to live. Nobody should have to live this way,” the model tells the Daily News. “The people in this building need to come into the 21st century. I fell in love with Angel because he is a sweet, caring man – how dare they look down on us!”

Ambers and Rotger began dating in 2007 and married in July 2009. Their relationship cost Rotger his job, the lawsuit says. Ambers, who bought the apartment in 2003, claims he even suffered physical abuse at the hands of superintendent Martin Purcell’s wife. The women, identified by building residents as Kristin Purcell, allegedly hit Rotger in the groin with her purse in August. Rotger suffered a contusion.

"He made his way to the hospital and was diagnosed with a contusion," Ambers says. "Can you imagine how hard she must have hit him to have caused a contusion?"

“It seems that Christina has breached some type of social order that existed in that building. There’s no question that they’ve been made to feel like outcasts,” says the Ambers and Rotger’s lawyer Joshua Price.

Ambers has been dubbed the “Heidi Klum of hand and foot models.” Her hands and feet have appeared in many ad campaigns for Maybelline, Harry Winston, Anne Klein, Oil of Olay, Heineken and the TV show Rescue Me.
