The top seeded North Carolina Tar Heels established a 22-3 lead in the first half and never had a problem with the number sixteen seeded Eastern Kentucky Colonels, winning 86-65 to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
UNC hit 64 percent of their shots from the field, 10 percent better than they shot from the foul-line, in the win. Tyler Hansbrough scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Reyshawn Terry added 18 points and 5 boards and Ty Lawson finished with 12 points and 7 assists as North Carolina was able to empty their bench in the second half.
Eastern Kentucky trailed by 12 at the break and then started the second half with a 9-1 run to cut their deficit to four but the Tar Heels turned it up a notch and went ona 7-0 run and just bullied the Colonels the rest of the way.
The Tar Heels will now face Michigan State in the second round.
