While Michael Jordan appeared grateful for the recent gesture extended by NBA superstar LeBron James he isn’t exactly convinced the he should be bestowed the honor.
LeBron recently announced that beginning next year he would no longer wear his familiar #23 jersey, opting for #6 in a sign of respect to Jordan. According to LeBron, he isn’t the only one who should refrain from wearing the #23. LeBron suggested the NBA retire the number in recognition of all that Jordan did for the game of basketball.
Responding to the gesture Jordan told NBA TV “Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell all those guys should have their jerseys retired, too. I understand his gesture, but I am in the same group as those guys so I wouldn't want to see my jersey retired unless you retire those guys. It is a compliment. I totally understand that. I appreciate LeBron for doing that and it is very thoughtful.”
