NCAA Tournament Scores: Virginia Cavaliers Send Great Danes Back to Albany

Every dog has his day but Friday just wasn’t that day for the Great Danes of Albany as the four seeded Virginia Cavaliers trounced the eleven seed 84-57 to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Great Danes were buried early as the Cavaliers jumped to a 19-2 lead on sharp shooting from J.R. Reynolds. Reynolds hit a pair of three-pointers and a jumper during the stretch and went on to score 23 points in the first half as Virginia built a 45-25 lead at the break.

Virginia led by as many as 30 in the second half and dominated every aspect of the game against Albany. The Cavaliers hit 52 percent of their three-pointers and finished the game 53 percent from the field; they also dominated the glass grabbing 16 more rebounds than the Great Danes.

Reynolds finished with 28 points and pulled down 7 boards while Sean Singletary added 23 and 9 assists for the Cavaliers who will now take on the winner of the Tennessee/Long Beach State match-up in the second round.
