An overloaded ferry sank off the coast of Indonesia on Sunday, leaving at least 23 people and several more left missing.
While the death toll is expected to increase rescue crews managed to save more than 200 people after the ferry overturned in rough waters. Officials are blaming the accident on bad weather and high waves but some reports have suggested the ferry was carrying more than its capacity of 273 people.
The ferry had been travelling from Batam island to Dumai in Riau, Sumatra when the ship began taking on water about 90 minutes into its trip. Fortunately for the passengers the ferry went down in the heavily trafficked Malacca Straits and there were several ships that were able to respond quickly to the disaster.
