The dust has seemingly settled on the AP Top 25 college football rankings and after an early stretch of rotating Top 10 teams the poll has adopted a real sense of consistency as the top nine teams remain unchanged from a week ago.
Once again the Florida Gators hold the #1 spot in the AP Top 25 after an embarrassing 62-3 win over Florida International on Saturday. The Gators will close their regular season next week with their annual showdown against Florida State before meeting the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship.
The Crimson Tide blasted Chattanooga 45-0 on Saturday to remain at #2 in the AP Top 25 and have just Auburn left on their schedule before their showdown with Florida for the SEC title and a berth into the BCS national title game.
With Florida and Alabama still slated to play the Texas Longhorns are fine at #3 in the AP Top 25 college football rankings. The Longhorns, assuming they can get past Texas A&M on Thanksgiving and go on to win the Big 12 title, will meet the winner of the Gators v. Crimson Tide for the national championship.
Sitting on the outside praying for Texas to lose is the #4 TCU Horned Frogs who have continued to make a run at a BCS national title shot. TCU has New Mexico next week and will then await a BCS bowl with hopes of facing either Florida or Alabama.
The Cincinnati Bearcats held on to their #5 position in the AP Top 25 and are in good standing for a solid BCS bowl bid. Boise State might not be as fortunate as the #6 Broncos remain undefeated but could be left out of an at-large bid in the BCS selection process.
That won’t be the case for the #7 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets if they can finish the season strong. They still have their rivalry game against the Georgia Bulldogs next week and will need to win the ACC Championship to earn a solid bowl game.
