The number six seeded Vanderbilt Commodores rallied from a ten point deficit in the second half to force overtime and eventually beat the number three seeded Washington State Cougars 78-74 in double-overtime to advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.
Vandy took the lead in the second half after three consecutive three pointers erased an eight point Washington State advantage. The Commodores then bumped their lead to 55-51 with 7:53 left in the game when Dan Cage hit another three-pointer.
The Cougars then took the lead back with a triple of their own and a pair of free-throws from Kyle Weaver. Washington State then added another free-throw to go up two but Shane Foster buried a three with just over a minute remaining to give the Commodores the lead. Weaver then had the chance to give the Cougars the lead with 46 seconds left but hit just one of his two free-throws.
In the first overtime Derrick Low hit a three-pointer with 36 seconds left to tie the score at 69-69. The Cougars had the chance to win it but Taylor Rochestie missed a jumper with 3 seconds left and it was on to double-overtime.
The Commodores were able to build a five point lead and held on to upset the higher seeded Cougars.
Derrick Byars led the Commodores with 27 points while Shan Foster added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the win.
