The number one seeded North Carolina Tar Heels held the number nine seeded Michigan State Spartans to just one field-goal in the final 8:47 of the second half to win 81-67 and advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.
While UNC won by 14 the game was a lot closer than the final score.
Michigan State actually took the lead 57-54 when Drew Neitzel hit a three-pointer with 8:48 left in the second half. Over the next three minutes the two sides traded baskets and UNC was in front 62-61 with 5:42 remaining.
The Tar Heels then ran off six straight points to build a bit of a cushion and the Spartans went cold from the field. Marquise Gray was able to get the Spartans within five with 2:47 remaining but that was the last field-goal Michigan State could manage. UNC was able to ice the game with five free-throws in the final 1:43.
Tyler Hansbrough had a huge game for the Tar Heels, scoring 33 points and grabbing 9 rebounds while Ty Lawson added 20 points and 8 assists in the win.
