The number two seeded Georgetown Hoyas put together enough offense in the second half to overcome an eight point deficit and beat the seven seeded Boston College Eagles 62-55 to earn a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.
Georgetown raced to a 12-2 lead in the first four minutes of the first half but then hit just four field goals through the rest of the frame and trailed 30-26 at the break.
The Eagles were able to bump their lead to 39-21 in the second half when Tyrese Rice buried a three-pointer with 15:28 on the clock but Georgetown responded with a 10-0 run and took the lead 41-39.
Boston College took a brief lead at 43-41 but Patrick Ewing Jr. put the Hoyas back in front with a triple. The Eagles tied it at 44-44 when Jared Dudley made one of two free-throws with 8:52 remaining.
With Georgetown up by three Dudley scored on a layup with 3:56 remaining to cut their deficit to one but that was the last field goal the Eagles would make in the game.
Roy Hibbert scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Hoyas while Jonathan Wallace added 15 points on 5-7 shooting. Georgetown hit 42 percent of their shots from the field while Boston College finished at 38 percent. The Eagles were never able to get their long range game going, finishing just 6-21 from beyond the three-point arc.
