Fox CEO Calls for US to Adopt French Policy Against Internet Piracy

Finance World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

Today, the chief executive of Fox Filmed Entertainment, Jim Gianopulos, said that the U.S. follow France’s lead on Internet piracy, cutting off the Internet connection of users who repeatedly download copyright-protected files.

Calling Internet piracy the single biggest threat to the film industry worldwide, Gianopulos said that independent films are the primary victims.

“The bad news is that the Internet is big, and it's anonymous," he said. However, he continued, Internet service providers can track down subscribers whose IP address has been identified downloading films illegally and issue warnings. Punishing repeat offenders, Gianopolus said, would help create a “level playing field” for filmmakers.
