The planned construction of a trash incinerator in Guangzhou, China has hundreds of residents protesting, worried about property values and health risks.
Although officials told the public that the incinerator wouldn’t be built until a proper environmental assessment is conducted, they haven’t yet said when it will take place. The incinerator, authorities say, is the best way to deal with the nearly 1,700 tons of trash collected daily.
Roughly 400 protestors gathered today outside Guangzhou’s city hall, some holding up “Oppose the incinerator” signs, while other passed out bumped sticks with the same slogan.
