The number five seeded Tennessee Volunteers hit eight straight from the foul-line in the final 28 seconds to beat the number four seeded Virginia Cavaliers 77-74 and advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.
Tennessee trailed by three with 16:12 remaining in the second half but used a 10-0 run to grab the lead 49-42.
Adrian Joseph brought the Cavaliers to within 64-62 on a three-pointer with 2:50 remaining in the game but JaJuan Smith answered for the Volunteers with a three-pointer of his own to bump the lead back to five.
Virginia cut the lead to two once again with 28 seconds left in the game but Ryan Childress hit a pair from the line for a 71-67 advantage. Sean Singletary drained a three-pointer with 13 seconds left to pull the Cavs to within 73-72 but the Volunteers got two more free-throws from Chris Lofton to go up thee. Singletary, who sored nine points in the final 35 seconds of the game, hit two from the line for the Cavs with 6 seconds left but Lofton again drained both his free-throws with 5 seconds on the clock and Singletary missed a last second three-pointer.
Lofton finished with 20 points for the Volunteers while Singletary ended his night with 19 in the loss.
Tennessee will now face top seeded Ohio State in the Sweet Sixteen.
