The number seven seeded UNLV Rebels overcame a scoreless drought of over five minutes in the second half to beat the number two seeded Wisconsin Badgers 74-68 and advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.
UNLV had built a 13 point lead in the first half before settling with a 39-27 advantage at the break. Wisconsin began to chip away at the lead in the second half but the Rebels were still up nine after Wendell White hit a jumper to make it 46-37 with 14:31 on the clock.
Wisconsin then went on an 11-0 run and grabbed the lead 48-47 with 9:37 on the clock. White tied the score for the Rebels with another jumper and the two teams went back and forth with the Badgers holding a one point lead with just under six minutes left in the game.
Kevin Kruger then ignited an 8-0 run for the Rebels with a pair of three-pointers and UNLV was up 61-54. Wisconsin was able to get within three, 70-67 with 59 seconds remaining but Curtis Terry hit a jumper to push the lead back to five with 30 seconds in left on the clock.
White finished with 22 points for the Rebels and Kruger added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the win. UNLV will now face Oregon in the Sweet Sixteen.
