The number one seeded Kansas Jayhawks used an 8-0 run in the second half to open up an 11 point lead and then cruised past the number eight seeded Kentucky Wildcats 88-76 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.
Kansas was particularly effective from beyond the three-point arc, hitting 10-16 from that distance. Brandon Rush finished with 19 points on the night, 18 of those points were on three-pointers. Mario Chalmers added 16 points, 9 by way of the triple and Julian Wright finished with 21 points and 8 rebounds in the Kansas win.
Randolph Morris led the Wildcats with 22 points and 8 rebounds while Bobby Perry finished with 21 points.
The Jayhawks led by six at the half and opened up the second with a three-pointer from Rush to push the lead to nine. Kentucky answered with back-to-back threes from Perry to cut the deficit to three. But over the next 3:24 the Wildcats could manage just two points off of a pair of free-throws from Morris and Kansas opened up an 11 point lead that Kentucky could never challenge.
Kansas will now face the Southern Illinois Salukis in the Sweet Sixteen.
