‘300’ became the third fastest R-rated film to hit the $100 million mark at the box-office after pulling in $31.2 million this weekend and retaining the ticket title. In its debut last weekend the Spartan inspired flick brought in $70 million, more than all other movies in the top ten, combined.
The seven day whirlwind produced by ‘300’ has only been bettered by “The Matrix Reloaded,” which hit the century mark in three days, and “The Passion of the Christ,” topping $100 million in five days.
After setting the record for biggest opening weekend in the month of March ‘300’ has its eyes set on the $200 million mark. After seven days on the big screen ‘300’ has brought in $127.5 million.
While the Spartans fended off all challengers at the box-office there were a few bright spots for other movies.
“Wild Hogs” continued to surprise with an additional $18.82 million to land second in the race. The John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, Tim Allen and William H. Macy flick has brought in over $100 million after its third weekend in release.
Sandra Bullock returned to theaters with “Premonition” which totaled $18 million in ticket sales to take third.
