Heather Mills made her debut on the hit show “Dancing with the Stars” on Monday night and earned high marks from the judges while many in the audience gave her a standing ovation for her performance.
Mills, 39, has earned much publicity for her participation in the ABC reality show that partners celebrities with professional dancers in a 10-week competition. While Heather has taken a media beating for her overly publicized break with Paul McCartney she has won back several fans after joining the “Dancing” cast.
Having lost her left leg below the knee as a result of an accident in 1993, Mills is dancing with a prosthetic leg. Her mission on the show, to show the world that no matter what your physical limitations appear to be, there is always a way to overcome them.
Performing the foxtrot with dance partner Jonathan Roberts, Mills received 18 of the possible 30 points from the judges, placing them sixth out of the field of eleven.
Len Goodman, one of the three judges, remarked “There was far more right about that routine than wrong,” while fellow judge Bruno Tonioli complimented Mills on her courage saying, “You've got more guts than Rambo.”
The eleven contestants will have another opportunity to impress the three judges and the public voters next Monday before the first elimination is announced Tuesday. Mills is sitting safe at this point as former ‘N Sync singer Joey Fatone earned the highest total with 24 while country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus stumbled to 13 points as Tonioli compared his dancing to that of a “crazy bear in a swamp.”
