The Bluffton University baseball team will begin their season March 31; 29 days after their chartered bus plunged off an overpass and crashed on the pavement below killing five players.
Originally scheduled to play their first game March 5 in Fort Myers, Florida, the team had been traveling through Atlanta when the driver apparently mistook an exit lane for a highway lane and ran straight into the concrete barrier of the overpass and onto the highway below.
Four players died on the scene as did the driver and his wife. A fifth player died from his injuries a week later.
Bluffton University athletic director Phill Talavinia said that the team came to a unanimous decision to continue with the season but wanted the families of those who died to agree.
As a tribute to their five teammates: Zach Arend, David Betts, Scott Harmon, Cody Holp and Tyler Williams, the Beavers will wear all black uniforms.
