American Cornhole, LLC a Cincinnati, Ohio based events marketing company has moved cornhole to a National stage. Just a few years ago cornhole was a backyard game played mostly in the Midwest. Cornhole is quickly becoming recognized as a sport thanks to the efforts of the ACO, the governing body of the sport of cornhole.
Several years ago the ACO, American Cornhole Organization, set out to standardize the game of
Cornhole. Certain standards would be needed in order to accomplish this feat. ACO manufactured boards, bags, and rules as the initial set of standards for the game.
These standards lead to a sanctioning process for consistency when running American Cornhole events and tournaments. Now cornhole players in Oklahoma play on the same sanctioned equipment as those playing in South Carolina. With the sanctioned equipment in place, the players concentrate on their playing skills rather than worrying about adjusting to different equipment.
Now that the initial rules and equipment were standardized, American Cornhole could concentrate on building a nationwide team of experts, known as ACO agents. These agents are spread across the US to deliver the ACO message. ACO agents participate in running tournaments in their states as well as participate in running the ACO-PRO circuit events which includes the Master Series, Signature Series and King of Cornhole.
In an effort to build upon their success, American Cornhole reached out to Doug Hopkins from Independence, Kentucky to help formulate the message and develop tools necessary for growth. Doug is no stranger to the game of cornhole. He and his partner were influential in getting King of Cornhole onto cable TV. Doug has a strong corporate background. His expertise is making the complicated seem simple. His Title: Director of Global Sponsorship and Licensing is the longest title in the industry but it does describe what he does.
His role will be to develop programs the ACO agents can leverage and to maximize the exposure of Regional and National sponsors in addition to negotiating with locations for event development.
American Cornhole is already promoting a circuit of tournaments for 2010 that will have over $50,000 in guaranteed cash prizes to be earned. The ACO has set a goal of $200,000 in cash prizes for 2010. The venues will include stand alone events, festivals, fairs and many others. Doug's efforts will be instrumental in reaching the ACO goal of $1,000,000 prize payout by 2013 and growing the awareness of the game and sport of cornhole.
