American Idol: Odds Stacked Against Sanjaya Malakar

While many have been perplexed by the continued presence of Sanjaya Malakar on the show American Idol, his inclusion in last weeks bottom two may be an indication that his days are numbered.

The 17-year-old hula dancing Malakar is the odds makers bet to earn the boot after tonight’s performance. It’s even money that when American Idol reveals the vote on Wednesday it will be the Frampton haired one that bids aloha, as in goodbye.

American Idol is a funny show and just as Antonella Barba proved before Malakar took over, it’s not always your voice that keeps you singing. Malakar has a backing that would rival many professional sports teams and that, in and of itself, could keep him in the competition.

Truth be told, the young man has shown some incredible poise over the past few weeks. It’s not as if these contestants are cut off from the outside world, oblivious to the criticisms and insults hurled their way. For his part, Malakar has proven himself to be stronger than most in respect to his critics. He’s even earned the respect of Simon Cowell on that note.

Throughout it all, Malakar has continued to take the stage and perform, no easy task when you know people will be crying for your blood at the end of the show.

Whether its his support team that faithfully dials in his name each week or the anti American Idol opponents that enjoy the public execution that Malakar is subject to each week, the bottom line is its not his fault.

But there may be relief in sight for Malakar, he may actually get to go home after tonight’s performance.
