Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points while Josh Howard added 24 and 10 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks (55-11) beat the New York Knicks (30-37) 92-77 and improved to 2-0 on their six-game road trip.
The Mavericks led 30-23 after the first quarter but the Knicks were able to cut the deficit to three by the end of the second quarter after holding Dallas to eight points over the final 7:34 of the half.
Eddy Curry made it a one point game at the beginning of the third but Dallas ran off nine straight points as New York went nearly four minutes without a basket. The Knicks could manage just four field goals in the third as Dallas outscored them 24-13 to take control of the game.
New York could never get any closer than eleven in the fourth quarter as they missed an opportunity to grab the eighth spot in the playoff chase after the New Jersey Nets lost to Denver.
