According to her publicist, Larry Rudolph, Britney Spears checked out of Promises late Tuesday “after successfully completing their program.” The 25-year-old spent nearly four weeks at the Malibu alcohol and drug treatment center after failing to make it 24-hours on two previous rehab stints.
Beginning with her 55-hour marriage to childhood friend, Jason Alexander, in January 2004, Spears began to exhibit behavior that tainted her pop star image. By July she was engaged to back-up dancer Kevin Federline and in September the two were married. In September of the following year Spears gave birth to her first child. Spears then delivered her second child in September of 2006.
Spears then filed for divorce in November of 2006 citing irreconcilable differences. After the filing was announced Spears went on a highly publicized tour of L.A. and Las Vegas night clubs partying with the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.
Within two months Spears was being labeled out of control and near a meltdown. She signed in to a treatment facility in Antigua in early February but checked out within 24-hours. Spears returned to L.A. and eventually entered Promises, a stay that would last as long as her first attempt.
After leaving Promises, Spears shaved her head, got a pair of tattoos, and beat a car with an umbrella. Her estranged husband, Federline, threatened to ask a judge for full custody of their two children if Spears did not stay in treatment and on February 22 she re-entered Promises where she remained until late Tuesday.
