The Houston Texans five-year investment in quarterback David Carr may be near an end. Houston has reportedly come to an agreement with Atlanta that involves the Falcons backup quarterback Matt Schaub for a second-round draft choice and possibly other considerations.
Schaub, a three-year backup to Michael Vick in the Atlanta Flacons offense, is widely regarded as one of the best young quarterbacks in the league. While he hasn’t had much experience as a starter, Schaub’s arm strength and overall knowledge of the game was enough for the Texans to make a move.
After being selected as the top player overall in the 2002 NFL draft Carr never developed into the quarterback the Texans envisioned. Over his five-year career Carr has thrown 59 touchdowns and 65 interceptions. The Texans finished 4-12 in 2002, 5-11 in 2003, 7-9 in 2004, 2-14 in 2005 and 6-10 in 2006 with Carr as their starter.
The Texans signed long-time Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green earlier this month in hopes of improving on the AFC’s tenth ranked rushing offense.
