Overloaded Ferry Capsizes in Southern Bangladesh, Several Passengers Missing

An overloaded ferry carrying as many as 1,000 passengers partially capsized in southern Bangladesh on Friday. Officials have confirmed at least three deaths and fear that number could climb significantly as many passengers remain missing.

According to reports the ferry was approaching a river station near Lalmohan on Bhola Island when it tipped due to the weight of disembarking passengers. Several managed to make it to land but many more may have been trapped on the ferry when it went under water.

Rescue crews have been attempting to search cabins in the submerged vessel.
