Balboa Park Street Performers return for the Thanksgiving Holiday
Juggling & Magic Shows will be performed Fri.-Sun. 12-5p.m.
San Diego, CA– Talented street performers Stephen Sloan aka "Sleeveless the Magician" and juggler comedian David Kamatoy return to perform this Thanksgiving holiday on the Prado in Balboa Park. November 27th-29th about Noon till 5p.m. daily.
The street performing scene in Balboa Park has long been a hidden asset of talent in San Diego. "Winter is traditionally a slow season for street performing with the exception of the Holidays." said performer Kamatoy. "This Holiday Weekend brings a great mix of both of locals and visitors which makes for a great performing climate."
Street performers, who work for tips, offer a great holiday entertainment value for the dollar: if you don't like it, you pay nothing. "But if you do like it…" laughs Kamatoy who with Sloan promises hours of high quality entertainment for less than the cost of a single admission to a movie with beautiful Balboa Park as the backdrop. David Kamatoy's show consists of a 30-40 min. performance of various juggling tricks and ethnic stand up humor. In his show he juggles everything from balls, clubs and even plungers. "The shows are like great cartoons. The kids get entertainment and so do the adults," says Kamatoy.
Veteran Performer Stephen Sloan aka "Sleeveless the Magician" does a classic magic show, for families, that features "the oldest trick in magic" Cups and Balls. Sloan has a long history performing at SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo his show entertains everyone for grandchild to grandparent. His show is a humorous mixture of magic and audience involvement "To be perfectly honest it's the same show we've done for thousands of people in stadiums, corporate events, and comedy clubs. It's just a different venue with it's own unique flavor." says Sloan.
Because of the street nature of the performances, i.e. patrons haven't come to see a show and aren't ready to pay for it either, the shows are meant to entertain large crowds with humor and crowd interaction. "Balboa Park brings out the best, providing great, family-friendly entertainment at their finest park," says Sloan, "we're just proud to have been a part of the process for so many years."
Stephen Sloan and David Kamatoy have been seen performing at Seaport Village and Sea World. Last year they performed for the USS Nimitz and at UCSD. David Kamatoy has been recently performing in Hollywood while continuing to build an online presence at DavidKamatoy.com.
Also featured at Balboa Park will be "Didjetellus," the mystic sounds of Mitchell Walker and his Australian didjeridu. If you're looking for hours of high quality entertainment for less than the cost of a single admission to a movie try the street performing scene in Balboa Park.
