Donovan McNabb was 21/35 passing for 260 yards and a touchdown, LeSean McCoy rushed for 76 yards on 17 carries and Jason Avant had 94 yards receiving on five catches as the Philadelphia Eagles (7-4) held their playoff position with a 27-24 victory over the Washington Redskins (3-8) on Sunday.
Washington actually grabbed the lead in the first quarter when Jason Campbell scored on a one-yard keeper but the Eagles answered with a David Akers 29-yard field goal and then a 35-yard touchdown pass from McNabb to DeSean Jackson and Philly carried a 10-7 advantage into the second.
The Redskins reclaimed the lead early in the second when Campbell hit Santana Moss on a 4-yard toss and that 14-10 lead held until the final minute. With 49 seconds left in the half Akers pulled the Eagles to within 14-13 and after Campbell was picked off by Asante Samuel the Eagles tacked on an Akers 41-yard field goal with 3 seconds on the clock and Philly had a 16-14 lead at the break.
Washington wouldn’t just go away though and in the third quarter the Redskins went in front 21-16 when Campbell hit Fred Davis on a 10-yard touchdown pass and that lead carried over into the fourth quarter. Shaun Suisham gave the Redskins some breathing room when he hit a 25-yard field goal but Philly managed to even the score at 24-24 after Eldra Buckley scored on a one-yard run and McNabb found McCoy on a two-point conversion. Philly then grabbed the lead when Akers kicked his third field goal of the game, a 32-yarder with 1:48 left on the clock, and the Redskins had no more answers.
Philadelphia’s defense held the Redskins to just 82 rushing yards and picked off Campbell twice, both falling into the hands of Samuel.
