Dr. Susan Grossbard to be Featured on Close-Up Talk Radio

Wayne, NJ – While children who have difficulty learning may need extra time or concepts explained in a different way, they always need a teacher who understands. For these children, special education programs provide a crucial service.

But with new federal budget cuts taking hold, funding for special education programs has been significantly reduced. With many school districts already strapped for cash, children with special educational needs won’t have access to the resources necessary to take full advantage of their education.

Dr. Susan Grossbard is a psychologist specializing in children, adolescents and their families. With over 20 years’ experience working with schools, Dr. Grossbard serves as a special education advocate, assisting parents in securing educational rights for children with disabilities.

“All we’re talking about is leveling the playing field,” says Dr. Grossbard. “We want these children to be equal to everyone else with the same chance to succeed.”

As a private practitioner, Dr. Grossbard evaluates children for proper placement and can recommend appropriate strategies to help them learn. She also works with young teachers to develop effective communication skills so no child falls through the cracks.

For children struggling emotionally, Dr. Grossbard says sometimes it’s as simple as playing a game, reading a book or finishing a puzzle to help the children to discover new solutions.

“I do heads, not meds,” says Dr. Grossbard. “I have a lot of faith in children. When given the chance I believe they can figure it out.

“I have a lot of respect for those who cannot express themselves,” says Dr. Grossbard. “I’ve always been able to reach the unreachable. Even if you don’t know how to express yourself, we can figure it out together."

Close-Up Talk Radio will feature Dr. Susan Grossbard in a two-part interview with Doug Llewelyn on September 27th at 2pm and with Jim Masters on October 18th at 2pm.
