NBA Scores: Dallas Mavericks Stop Cavaliers Despite Big Night from LeBron

Dirk Nowitzki scored 23 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 6 assists as the Dallas Mavericks (56-11) beat the Cleveland Cavaliers (41-27) 98-90 to improve to 3-0 on their current six-game road trip.

The Cavaliers had a 23-16 lead with 3:13 remaining in the first quarter but didn’t score again until the 7:22 mark in the second quarter. By that point the Mavericks had gone on a 14-0 run and taken a 30-23 lead. Cleveland closed the quarter on a 7-2 run and cut their deficit to 49-45 at the half.

Dallas started the third quarter on an 8-0 sprint and jumped to a twelve point lead. The Cavaliers managed to get within six with 1:44 remaining in the quarter but Dallas hit three three-pointers in the final 5 seconds and jumped back to a 13 point advantage.

Cleveland was never able to get any closer than six in the fourth and dropped their second in a row after winning eight straight.

LeBron James finished with 31 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.

The Mavericks went 17-17 from the free-throw line.
