The groundbreaking scientific research is entitled “DNA Microarray for Genotyping Antibiotic Resistance Determinants in Acinetobacter baumannii Clinical Isolates”. The researchers have emphasized that “In recent decades, Acinetobacter baumannii has emerged as an organism of great concern due to its ability to accumulate antibiotic resistance”.
Antibiotic resistance has emerged as one the most serious health concerns in the 21st century due to the overuse of antibiotics in clinics and hospitals globally. Antibiotic resistant bacteria can lead to rapidly progressive and fatal illness in humans including pneumonia and severe sepsis. This places an increasingly greater importance on rapid microarray testing to identify resistant strains, which enable therapeutic intervention with life-saving medicines.
