St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa Arrested on Drunken Driving Charges

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was arrested on Thursday night after Florida police found the 62-year-old skipper asleep at the wheel.

La Russa’s SUV was stopped at an intersection when police noticed the vehicle hadn’t moved despite two green lights. When the officers approached the vehicle they found La Russa asleep, his car in drive, with his foot on the brake.

The two-time World Series winning manager eventually awoke and exited the vehicle at the request of the officers. He was administered a breathalyzer test that showed him to be above Florida’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Police arrested him and took him to Palm Beach County jail where he was booked on the misdemeanor charge. La Russa was released this morning after posting bond.
