Iranian Navy Detains Five Britons after Yacht Strays into Protected Waters

The Iranian navy has detained five Britons after the yacht they were sailing in strayed into the country’s waters.

According to reports the men had been sailing from Bahrain to Dubai to take part in a race. While sailing the yacht inadvertently strayed into Iranian waters at which time they were picked up by the navy and placed in custody.

The UK’s Foreign Office (FCO) confirmed that the men had been detained on Nov. 25 and while they knew they were being held they did not want the news to leak as they felt it would hamper any chances of resolving the issue in short period of time.

Communication between the FCO and Iranian officials has been ongoing and the detained men are said to be doing well.
