Tiger Woods has withdrawn from this week’s Chevron World Challenge, the same golf tournament he has hosted for the past nine years.
On his official website Woods noted, “I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week.” Woods continued, “I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I'm very sorry that I can't be there.’
Woods was involved in a single-car accident early Friday morning and suffered bruises and cuts to his face. He has not commented publicly about the accident, insisting it was a private matter.
Several reports have alleged that Woods had been fighting with his wife, Elin Nordegren, before he got in his Cadillac Escalade, hit a fire hydrant and then slammed into a tree. Earlier in the week the National Enquirer ran a story suggesting Woods had been having an affair with a New York nightclub hostess.
Woods has denied those allegations, calling them “false, unfounded and malicious rumors.”
