Arizona Residents are Seeking Drug Rehab

Arizona Residents are Seeking Drug Rehab

Arizona is in desperate need of drug rehab and has a very serious drug problem that needs immediate attention. The state is experiencing escalated violence associated with drug and human trafficking and smuggling along the border.  This increasingly violent drug activity is a result of conflict among cartels to control key drug and human smuggling routes from Mexico into the United States.  Arizona is a border community that has become vulnerable to the spill-over of drug related violence from Mexico.  Arizona’s 370-mile border with Mexico consists of sparsely populated areas, vast expanses of rugged mountainous terrain and broad valleys and deserts providing unlimited opportunities for drug-related activity.  These sparsely populated areas are infrequently patrolled by law enforcement and ideal for drug smuggling. Major drug smuggling organizations based in Mexico continue to dominate the movement of cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and heroin into and through Arizona. Arizona appears to be in desperate need of help and drug rehab immediately.

The drug and alcohol problem in the state of Arizona continues to destroy families and entire communities and only seems to be getting worse.  According to 2008 Drug Enforcement Administration Statistics there were 1,905.8 kilograms of cocaine, 152.8 kilograms of heroin, 263.4 kilograms of methamphetamine and 351,992.4 kilograms of marijuana seized by the federal government. According to the Arizona Department of Corrections there were 7,771 prisoners incarcerated for drug offenses as of April 29, 2008 and there were also 1,916 offenders under community supervision at that time for drug offenses.  It is apparent that the state is in serious need of successful and effective long-term inpatient drug rehab.  According to NSDUH (National Survey on Drug Use and Health) data, approximately 124,000 Arizona residents reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use within the last year.  One of the main reasons for this is because residents haven’t been able to find a successful and effective drug rehab.  Most have given up hope that they can be helped and can recover from their addictions.
