UCLA Bruins Move on to Elite Eight with Victory over Pittsburgh Panthers

Arron Afflalo scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while Josh Shipp added 16 points and pulled down 5 rebounds as the number two seeded UCLA Bruins beat the number three seeded Pittsburgh Panthers 64-55 to advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

UCLA went up 37-28 with 18:45 on the clock in the second half but failed to score another bucket over the next five and a half minutes. With the perfect opportunity to cut into the Bruins lead the Panthers managed just three points.

The Panthers were never able to get any closer than five in the second half and when the Bruins ran off six straight to build their lead to 12 with 2:58 remaining in the game. Levance Fields hit a three-pointer with 1:22 left in the game to bring the Panthers to within five. Michael Roll then hit a jumper for the Bruins with 53 seconds left and moved their lead to 58-51.

UCLA hit 23-26 from the foul-line and shot 42 percent from the field.

Pittsburgh struggled from the floor all night, finishing 8-14 from the foul-line and just 36 percent from the floor.
