General Motors' CEO Frederick "Fritz" Henderson has resigned following a difficult eight months at the automaker. Chairman Ed Whitacre Jr. will serve as the CEO until the international search for a new CEO and President is complete.
Henderson took his post March 29 following the Federal removal of former CEO Rich Wagoner. The company underwent a government led restructuring in the months that followed but have continued to struggle. The company was taken into Chapter 11 protection for 40 days from which it emerged due to federal loans.
General Motors was downsized significantly during Henderson’s run there with a goal of only upholding the four core brands, Buick, Cadillac, GMC and Chevrolet.
