Ban on 65 Thai Industrial Projects Still Stands

Finance World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

After a court continued an injunction against them for possibly causing environmental damage, some 65 projects at a Thai industrial estate still cannot operate.

Today, the Supreme Administrative Court overturned the injunction on eleven other projects, permitting them to resume their operation on the Map Ta Phut industrial estate, 115 miles from Bangkok.

The court ruled that while some of the projects were unlikely to have any affect on the people’s health and livelihoods, the remaining 65 could still pose a threat.

The legal action was originally filed by local environmentalists while the government appealed the original September injunction issued by a lower court, claiming that the ban on construction and production could decrease Thailand’s GDP growth by nearly 0.4 percent.
