The State of Utah Needs Drug Rehab

The State of Utah Needs Drug Rehab

The drug and alcohol problem in the state of Utah continues to destroy families and entire communities and only seems to be getting worse.  According to 2008 Drug Enforcement Administration Statistics there were 61.8 kilograms of cocaine, 4.1 kilograms of heroin, 21.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and 32,275.5 kilograms of marijuana seized by the federal government.  According to the Department of Public Safety there were 15,619 DUI arrests in the state of Utah in 2008.  It is apparent that the state is in serious need of successful and effective long-term inpatient drug rehab.  According to NSDUH (National Survey on Drug Use and Health) data, approximately 55,000 Utah residents reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use within the last year.  One of the main reasons for this is because residents haven’t been able to find a successful and effective drug rehab.  Most have given up hope that they can be helped and can recover from their addictions.

Throughout the state of Utah it has been reported that drug and alcohol abuse and addiction is on the rise.  Cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine and heroin are readily available throughout the state and continue to be a problem for all residents. Many tend to believe that drug courts are the answer to solving these problems but statistics have consistently shown that no real progress or results are being made.  The only real solution to this epidemic is effective, proven and successful long-term in-patient residential drug rehab. According to the Office of Justice Programs Drug Court Clearinghouse and Technical Assistance Project, as of April 16, 2007, there were 35 drug courts in operation or being planned in Utah.  Twenty-eight drug courts had been in operation for at least two years, 4 courts had recently been implemented and 3 drug courts were being planned.
