A suicide bomber entered a hotel in the Somali capital of Mogadishu and detonated an explosive during a graduation ceremony for medical students, killing at least 19 people and injuring several more.
According to reports the bomber, disguised as a woman, was targeting government officials in the attack and three ministers were among the dead. Those three ministers have been identified as Health Minister Qamar Aden Ali, Education Minister Ahmed Abdulahi Waayeel and Higher Education Minister Ibrahim Hassan Addow.
While there has been no claims of responsibility for the attack the Islamist militant group al-Shabab is suspected. Al-Shabab, believed to have ties with al-Qaeda, has been trying to overthrow the UN-backed government in Mogadishu for years.
