Ohio State Moves On to Final Four with Win Over Memphis Tigers

The number one seeded Ohio State Buckeyes Ron Lewis scored 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while Greg Oden went for 17 and pulled down 9 boards to beat the number two seeded Memphis Tigers and advance to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State started the game off on a 9-2 run but the Tigers answered with 8 straight to take a 10-9 lead with nearly eight minutes gone in the opening half. Over the next eight minutes neither team could open up much of a lead but then the Buckeyes used another 9-2 burst to go up 39-30 with 2:03 left on the clock. The Tigers refused to let the game slip away though and ended the half on an 8-2 run to trail at the break 41-38.

In the second half Memphis managed to grab the lead 52-51on a layup from Chris Douglas-Roberts with 13:46 remaining. The Tigers were able to built their lead up to five when Jeremy Hunt hit a pair of free-throws and it looked as if the would go down to the wire. But that’s when Oden stepped up for the Buckeyes and scored seven points in a 19-6 run and Ohio State was up 76-66 with 3:47 left in the game.

Memphis was never able to get any closer than six the rest of the way as Ohio State hit 16 straight free-throws over the final 3:14 to advance to Atlanta where they will face the winner of the North Carolina Georgetown game in the Final Four.

Ohio State hit 35 of their 41 free-throw attempts and shot 50 percent from the floor.
