Kobe Bryant didn’t quite reach Wilt Chamberlain’s record of seven straight games of scoring 50-plus games but he did score 43 points and grab 9 rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Lakers (38-32) past the Golden State Warriors (33-38) 115-113 for their fifth straight win.
Bryant had strung together four straight games of over 50 points and it looked as if he might reach five after the first two minutes of the game. Bryant had eight points as the Lakers raced to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter. Bryant went on to finish the quarter with 16 points and was on pace to eclipse the 50-point marker and the Lakers were up 35-25.
In the second quarter points wee hard to come by for Bryant as he finished with just four points and the Lakers lead had dropped to 65-61.
The Warriors were able to use an 8-0 run to turn a five point deficit into a three point advantage with 4:19 gone by in the third quarter. Their three point lead held up and the third quarter ended with Golden State in front 88-85.
Golden State then scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter and they had a ten point lead. That lead was quickly gone as the Warriors went through a cold spell as Los Angeles went on a 14-0 run to take a 104-98. Baron Davis was able to pull Golden State to within one with 27 seconds left in the game but Bryant hit one of two free throws and Lamar Odom added a pair to seal the win for the Lakers.
Odom finished the game with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Los Angeles grabbed 63 rebounds in the game compared to the 33 rebounds gathered by the Warriors.
Al Harrington led Golden State with 23 points.
