Returning to the big screen after a 14-year absence can be tough but for turtles with ninja skills it doesn’t seem to be a problem as “TMNT” raked in 25.45 million at the box-office this weekend to beat out “300” and take the top spot.
It seems that stopping world domination draws a bigger crowd than does 300 Spartans fighting off a few million invaders. The four turtles are brought together by their rat sensei, Master Splinter, to stop a disgruntled tech-industrialist before he takes over the world. “TMNT” features the voices of Laurence Fishburne, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kevin Smith and Patrick Stewart.
Not all was bad for “300” though. The blood fest did pull in another $20.5 million to push its total to $162.4 million after three weekends.
In his first flick since “The Departed,” Mark Wahlberg finished third at the box-office with “Shooter.” Wahlberg plays an ex-Marine who is framed for a presidential assassination, the action/thriller pulled in $14.5 million.
