After a five-day strike that stranded thousands of passengers and left a backlog of 12,000 pieces of unsorted luggage, Finnair baggage handlers returned to work Friday.
The airline was forced to cancel roughly 90 domestic and European flights, though one flight to Shanghai, China was also canceled.
The 1,000-worker walkout began Monday after the Finnish national carrier announced the sale of its baggage handling subsidiary Northport and the transfer of 490 employees to Barona group. It also said that 130 employees in Finnair Cargo Terminal Operations would move over to Suomen Transval Oy.
Although 400 striking workers went back to their jobs Tuesday, over 500 continued the protest until today.
Finnair spokeswoman Paivi Huuhtanen said that Finnair had lost “some millions” of euros due to the walkout.
