Amanda Knox Found Guilty in Italian Murder Trial, Sentenced to 26 Years

Amanda Knox, the American student standing trial in an Italian court, has been found guilty of murdering her British roommate and has been sentenced to 26 years in prison.

The jury found Knox, along with her one-time boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, guilty of killing Meredith Kercher in what was described by prosecutors as a drug-fueled sex game gone wrong. Kercher was found dead in her bedroom inside the flat she shared with Knox in Perugia.

Kercher’s throat had been slashed and while Knox and Sollecito maintained their innocence prosecutors managed to present DNA evidence that supported their accusations. Sollecito was sentenced to 25 years for his part in the murder.
