Romania’s presidential run-off remains too close to call as exit polls have led both candidates, former Romanian Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana and President Traian Basescu, to claim victory.
According to polls Geoana of the Social Democrats has secured 50.8% of the vote while Basescu was standing at 49.2% with a margin of error at 1%.
Romania is currently in a financial crisis and with a weak government currently in place the country has found it difficult to secure loans to stabilize their situation. The International Monetary Fund has already delayed a payment for a bail-out loan, expressing concern over widespread corruption in the country.
