AP Top 25 College Football Rankings Week 15: Alabama Crimson Tide Claim Top Spot, Texas Longhorns Move Up to #2
All the pieces are now in place and it appears certain that the Alabama Crimson Tide will face the Texas Longhorns in the BCS national championship game after a dramatic Saturday.
The Crimson Tide dismantled the Florida Gators in the SEC championship game to jumped from #2 to #1 in the AP Top 25 this week and punch their ticket to the BCS title game while the Texas Longhorns got a last second field goal to get past Nebraska in the Big 12 title game and almost certainly set up a showdown with the SEC champs.
Florida’s loss sent the Gators tumbling to #5 this week, sitting behind the #3 TCU Horned Frogs and #4 Cincinnati Bearcats. Both the Horned Frogs and Bearcats were hoping for a Nebraska win but should still earn a solid BCS bowl.
Things could be a bit more difficult for Boise State who completed a perfect season with a win on Saturday. While the Broncos locked up another WAC title they could still find themselves battling for a BCS nod.
With their win over in-state rival Oregon State the Oregon Ducks locked up a Rose Bowl appearance and now sit at #7 in the AP Top 25. They will be facing the #8 Ohio State Buckeyes who captured the Big Ten title.
