Michael Vick had a big day in his return to Atlanta, running for one touchdown while tossing a second, Donovan McNabb threw for 238 yards and a TD and the Philadelphia Eagles (8-4) defense dominated the offensively-impaired Falcons (6-6) forcing three turnovers in a 34-7 drubbing on Sunday.
Philadelphia built a 10-0 lead in the opening frame as David Akers kicked a 33-yard field goal and Leonard Weaver scored on a 4-yard toss from McNabb. That lead was extended to 13-0 in the second when Akers added a 33-yard field goal and that score held until the half.
Vick, who received a mixed reaction from the crowd, found the endzone for the first time this year when he scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter to boost the Eagles advantage to 20-0. Atlanta offense, playing without starting QB Matt Ryan, running back Michael Turner and receiver Michael Jenkins, couldn’t build any momentum against the Philly defense and things went from bad to worse when Chris Redman was picked off by Sheldon Brown who went 83-yards for a TD and the Eagles were cruising 27-0 heading into the fourth.
The victorious return for Vick was capped early in the fourth when he tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Brent Celek for a 34-0 lead. Atlanta managed to avoid the shutout on the final play of the game as Redman’s pass was tipped and eventually corralled by Roddy White in the endzone for the Falcons only points.
