College Football News: Jimmy Clausen Announces Plans to Leave Notre Dame, Enter NFL Draft

Notre Dame junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen has announced plans to forgo his senior year and enter the NFL Draft.

Clausen, considered by many to be the top quarterback in college football, made his decision known to ESPN on Monday, telling the network “After the season, in talking to my parents and obviously Coach Weis, I just feel it's the right time.”

Notre Dame finished the season with a disappointing 6-6 record, dropping their final four games. That 6-6 mark sealed the fate of head coach Charlie Weis who was fired shortly after the team’s loss to Stanford. The firing of Weis did not play a part in Clausen’s decision to enter April’s NFL Draft though as the 6-foot-3-inch, 220 pound QB said, “Coach Weis told me whether he was going to be here or not be here, it was time for me to go. He thought I've improved so much since I came to Notre Dame. So, I'm taking his advice, and I'm going to head out.”

Despite Notre Dame’s struggles Clausen thrived in his junior season, throwing 28 touchdowns and just four interceptions while completing 68 percent of his passes.
